Houston,TX- The dynamic Houston’s 5th Sunday Choir released its long anticipated EP project on Sunday, November 30 at Forest Lawn Baptist Church.

They originally started as a musical fundraising effort for its choir director, Tramaine L. Hawkins and has since then expanded.

Hawkins is a local gospel artist and one of the original founders of the choir.

” We believe in bridging the gap between the older and newer generation;we want our music to reach all generations,” said Hawkins.

The choir is no stranger to the Houston gospel community. They have been singing in the Houston gospel industry for going on 5 years.

” This EP gives our listeners a glimpse into who we really are as a choir: we are just fun and true worshippers at heart,” said Hawkins.

Attendees to the concert, got a preview to the choir’s EP through a 4-song selection, which spiritually captivated the audience.

“Its just something about this choir that makes them unique than other choirs in the city. Their ability to sing a variety of music and still keep the “churchy” sound, is imppecable,” said Michael White.

White stated that he’s been a huge supporter of the choir ever since hearing them 2 years ago at a local concert.

“This is such a dynamic and annointed choir,” stated White.

Evelyn Walker who was an attendee to the concert, stated that she had heard of the choir before but had never been to one of their concerts.

” I loved it; The whole feeling of being surrounded by several generations singing for God, felt good,” said Walker.

” I will be coming to all of the concerts now.” stated Walker.

.
The concert also included a special musical performance by local gospel group Harmon West and Perfect Praise.

The choir has an upcoming EP release tour to some cities in Texas. They will also release their complete album in March 2015.

The “Fall In Love With Your Hair Tour” Comes To Houston

Houston, Tx– The “Fall In Love with Your Hair” tour made its second stop in Houston for an intimate night of natural hair experience on Thursday, October 23 at the Domain at Kirby.

Over the years, going natural has become a craze in the African-American community. Many people are deciding to go back to their natural roots and not chemically process their hair.

The tour, which was  sponsored by natural hair care line “Beautiful Textures” made a stop in Houston to inspire and inform natural hair care lovers in the city. Women and men from all over the city of Houston came with friends to become more informative about their natural hair.

“It was definitely an informative experience for natural hair lovers; I came here with my mom to get a more insight on our hair” said Jazmyne Williams, who’s been natural for 5 years and was looking for different ways to maintain her hair.

The event gave attendees the opportunity to ask the questions concerning their hair through a series of panels and discussions. The panels included: OWN TV’s “Houston Beauty” star, Queenseley Felix, Charlene Dance and Camille Davis of “Strength of Nature” and more.

“The panelists made sure that no question was left unanswered; they gave personal experiences about styling and maintaining their hair” stated Williams.

The panelist gave advice on how to properly treat their chemically unprocessed hair along with several styling stations. The stations gave the women ways to properly maintain their hair, as well as ways to style it.

The panel encouraged women on ways to deal with the negative backlash about going natural.

“You have to own your natural hair; embrace it despite what people think” said “Houston Beauty” star Queenseley Felix.

Felix gave the women several ways to respond to the negativity of making the decision to go natural both professionally and socially.  The attendees gave experiences on the struggles of choosing to go natural and negative responses from others.

” It was a difficult transition, being that I was used to having relaxed hair. The transition has become easier.” said Velyjha Southern.

The mission of the event was to inspire other natural hair lovers to learn to own and accept their hair.

“This event was necessary and a success because their are very few events geared toward natural hair people in the city” said Southern.

The tour wrapped up in Houston and made their way to New Orleans for their next stop. Planners of the tour hope to have another tour in the Spring of next year.

Fall Trend Alert

The “Over-Shoulder Drape” look has become one of the biggest winter trends for this year . By simply draping either a coat or blazer over your shoulders, you can make your outfit the perfect transitional piece. This is the ultimate outfit finisher for a winter look. The beauty of this trend is that it can be done by both men and women. If you have an older either wool or trench coat in your closet, go ahead and pull it out and add just the touch of winter flare to it!
